About Air Spring
An air spring could be defined as a reservoir of air made of rubber and fabric, which is shaped with bellows and that can be used to support load, isolate vibrations and shocks, or act as a pneumatic cylinder by expanding itself.
Increasing the load an air spring can carry can be achieved by increasing the pressure inside the air spring, increasing the diameter of the air spring (thus increasing the area), or both.
The ability to change the load carrying capacity only by changing the air pressure rather than replacing the air spring is the main advantage of air springs over steel springs. Since an air spring consists of a closed volume of air, compression of the air spring (bounce travel) causes an increase in pressure, and expansion of the air spring (rebound travel) causes a decrease in pressure.
